Electrical Workbench · Field Edition

Welcome to your electrical workbench.

An organized field toolkit for electricians—manage material lists and jobs, work through bending and electrical calculations, and review drawings and code references in one place.

Start here

Get set up in three steps

Build your materials once, then organize everything around the job you select.

01

Build your material catalog

Create a reusable master list or enter materials as you go. Add catalog items to individual jobs without retyping them.

02

Create and select a job

Make a job for each project, then use the Current job selector at the top to choose where materials, panels and tasks belong.

03

Work from the field

Track stock, plan panels, mark up shared PDFs and use calculation tools—all tied to the work you're doing.

Explore the tools

Everything in one place

Tap any tool to open it directly.

Electrical calculations, sizing charts, and NEC summaries are field references. Verify measurements and the code edition adopted for your project before installation.

Workspace

Jobs

Create a job for each project; keep its materials, photos, notes, tasks and documents organized.

Job workspace

Panel schedules

Choose a job first, then create, edit, and export its panel schedules. Each panel stays attached to that job.

Panel schedules

Create multiple panels per job, select voltage and colors, and group breaker positions.

Schedules belong to the selected job

Inventory

Select a job, then view or adjust the materials assigned to that job. Add more from your Materials catalog.

Materials catalog

Build a reusable list of your electrical materials. Tap Add to job to put an item on the job selected below. Your catalog stays intact.

How this works

A catalog item is a reusable material template. On hand in the catalog is optional shop stock, separate from the quantities assigned to a job. Adding a catalog item to a job does not subtract shop stock.

Workspace

Job tasks

Track field to-dos for the selected project.

Prints & markups

Upload electrical drawings, measure from a calibrated scale and share annotated pages with your job team.

Job drawings

Drawings follow the Current job selected above. Only approved members can see shared prints.

Field tools · NEC Chapter 9

Conduit fill calculator

Choose a raceway, add every conductor or cable—including grounds—and calculate raceway fill using Chapter 9 Tables 1, 4 and 5. Works with mixed wire sizes and insulation types.

1 · Choose your conduit

2 · Add your conductors

Count grounds too

For THHN, XHHW and THW, areas include insulation. Select Bare stranded for a bare equipment ground, or enter a manufacturer-listed outside diameter for a cable assembly. An insulated ground must be entered under its insulation type.

3 · Conduit fill results

Add your wire sizes and quantities to see fill.

NEC Chapter 9 · Tables 1, 4, 5 and 8

Important field checks

Fill percentage is not ampacity derating. Check 310.15(C)(1), raceway suitability, temperature limits, wet-location ratings, pull conditions, and the NEC edition adopted locally. The smallest fitting conduit may not be the best practical pulling size. Cable dimensions must match the actual listed assembly. Table 1 Notes 4 and 9 may apply.

Conduit bending

Pick the bender brand, style and model, then select the actual conduit and shoe. Save your shoe-chart values for next time.

1 · Choose your bender

Choose a model, or select Custom to enter your own.
Select a custom shoe setup to edit or delete.

2 · Enter your shoe-chart figures

Required for 90° stub. Use the value for the selected conduit and shoe.
Useful when recording your specific shoe.

Model listings identify actual bender products, but most chart values are intentionally blank until verified for your exact shoe. Manufacturer manuals should take priority over a generic calculation.

3 · Select a bend

Marking & layout

Check the specific model, shoe, conduit material and manufacturer manual. For hydraulic and mechanical benders, the machine may use centerline marks or ram-travel charts rather than a hand-bender arrow. The general offset spacing formula is not a manufacturer setup instruction.
Field tools

Electrical calculations

Fast field estimates with labeled inputs and transparent formulas.

Voltage drop estimate

Approximate K-factor method at ~75°C; AC reactance, installation conditions, power factor and terminal limits may alter results. Not a substitute for code verification.

Power / current

Single phase: P = V × I × PF. Balanced three phase: P = √3 × line-to-line V × I × PF. Results are real power (kW), not apparent power (kVA).
Field tools

Wire & unit conversions

Convert AWG, kcmil, square millimeters and distance without confusing conductor area with ampacity.

AWG / kcmil to metric

Area comparison only, not ampacity. Equivalent solid-wire diameter is not the outside diameter of stranded cable.

Length conversions

Wire sizing charts

Fast lookup for branch circuits, feeders, equipment grounding and grounding-electrode conductors.

Branch circuitsConductor ampacity, 125% continuous loads, small-conductor rules
FeedersPreliminary sizes, termination-temperature limits, correction factors
GroundingDifferent methods for equipment grounds (EGC) and electrode grounds (GEC)

Conductor ampacity quick chart

Common 2023 NEC Table 310.16 base ampacity values for copper and aluminum conductors, 30°C ambient, with no more than three current-carrying conductors. The 2026 NEC adds some small-conductor provisions; verify the edition adopted where you work.

Important: This is not a final permitted ampacity. Apply 110.14(C) terminal ratings, 310.15 conductor-count adjustment and ambient correction, 240.4 overcurrent protection limits, and applicable wiring-method or equipment rules. The 90°C insulation column is not automatically the allowable terminal ampacity.

Branch / feeder sizing worksheet

Preliminary ampacity sizing based on continuous and noncontinuous load. Uses the selected material above. This is not a complete code-compliance or demand-load calculation.

Equipment grounding conductor (EGC)

Minimum wire-type equipment ground based on the amp rating or setting of the breaker/fuse ahead of the circuit. Reference: NEC Table 250.122. This is NOT the grounding electrode conductor table.

Common EGC quick chart

Watch for: NEC 250.122(B) when ungrounded conductors are enlarged, parallel runs, listed raceways that qualify as EGCs, and other special rules. An equipment grounding conductor and a grounding electrode conductor are not interchangeable.

Grounding electrode conductor (GEC)

Service grounding electrode conductor reference based on the size/area of the largest ungrounded service conductors, not the OCPD rating. Reference: NEC Table 250.66.

Exceptions matter: Ground rods, concrete-encased electrodes, and ground rings can follow additional limits. Multiple parallel service conductors require equivalent-area assessment. Check 250.66 and 250.64 in the edition in effect.

How NEC lookup works

This searchable index provides original topic summaries and article numbers, not the copyrighted NEC text. The official NFPA page includes code edition selection and an available Free Access viewing option; some NFPA LiNK features or subscriptions may require an account. Full article text cannot be copied or embedded here without the appropriate license.

Check edition2020, 2023 and 2026 NEC editions may differ. Verify your jurisdiction's adopted version.
Read exceptionsExceptions, notes and related tables can change the answer.
Verify with AHJLocal amendments and equipment listings still control the installation.
